New ‘Love You for You’ Series Features Conversations Between Trans Kids and Their Loved Ones (KQED)

By Sasha Khokha: Our Love You for You features six conversations, packaged into three episodes, between trans and nonbinary youth and the people in their lives who love and mentor them: parents, grandparents, siblings and others. This week, we’ll hear kids exploring identity and coming out to family. In the first conversation, a nonbinary 8-year-old talks with their mom about navigating school life and connecting with their Vietnamese and Taiwanese relatives. Then, 16-year-old Hunter Stoval sits down with his mom’s best friend, Shirin Amini, who came out as a lesbian at his age. LISTEN

From Christopher - WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS STORY? There have been a lot of headlines recently about trans youth, but those young people often don’t get much of a chance to tell their own stories. I think it’s important to listen to people before passing policies about them. Plus I always appreciate hearing teen reflections on public radio.
